This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a challenge for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together resides a deep meditation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the country for her career. A commonly used narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence takes hold of the couple. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the type of challenges that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they still love each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these fears of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor never feels clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
