Patson Daka Scores Stoppage-Time Goal to Earn Zambia Against Mali in Afcon.
Patson Daka halted a 20-month goal dry spell for Zambia with his late header in Morocco.
Zambia's star striker proved to be the hero for Chipolopolo as his dying-moments header clinched a thrilling 1-1 tie against Mali at the 2025 continental finals in Casablanca.
Eagles Seize Early Control
Lassine Sinayoko had given his side the lead just after the 60-minute mark in the Group A clash at the iconic Casablanca stadium, lashing home from close range after his initial attempt from a set-piece had been deflected.
The Eagles dictated the play and were awarded an opportunity to go in front in the closing stages of the first half after Nene Dorgeles was tripped in the box by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.
El Bilal Toure took responsibility for Mali but his powerful strike was expertly kept out by Chipolopolo goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.
The Striker's Dramatic Response
Daka eventually secured a point for the 2012 Afcon winners, who were largely overwhelmed by the aerial strength of the Malians until the defender's lofted cross was pounced upon by the attacker.
Tournament Standings
The result leaves both sides two points behind tournament hosts the Atlas Lions in the Group A table after the Atlas Lions claimed victory in their first match 2-0 against the Coelacanths at the weekend.
Chipolopolo will stay in Casablanca to play their second fixture against Comoros on Friday, while Mali travel to the capital for a pivotal encounter against Morocco.
