Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, dominated an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
