Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a jump control. Across 150 levels, battle mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy outfits for your poop character.
Time your movements with caution, as a wrong move forces starting over. Leap off air pockets to launch the poop upward, traverse disappearing surfaces, and touch switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher levels where things intensifies.
Graphically, the experience features eye-catching stages and catchy music score. The retro graphics with morphing abstract forms may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, video games frequently featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme is present a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on Steam this November.
