Former NFL star Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge connected with a gunfire that happened in May, with his lawyer entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Jail logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has previously lodged a documented innocent response to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday early for a bail session, Eiglarsh stated.

As per his detention warrant, Brown is charged of taking a firearm from a protection employee after a celebrity match contest in May and shooting multiple shots at a individual he had fought with earlier. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to authorities that one shot grazed his throat.

Eiglarsh stated that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-protection against the alleged individual’s hostile behavior. Brown was attacked that night and acted within his lawful right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.

Brown was not right away detained because initially officers did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu gave a complete testimony about the incident to officers and identified Brown as the gunman, the report says.

From his online posts, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown said he was defending himself because he was “jumped by numerous persons who attempted to steal my possessions and bring personal harm to me.”

A second-degree attempted murder charge in Florida bears a highest fifteen-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fine in the instance of a conviction.

Brown has encountered multiple legal issues over the period. He previously had been alleged of battery of a delivery driver, several domestic violence charges, neglect to pay family payments and other incidents.

During a 2021 match with the Buccaneers against the Jets, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and exited the stadium, resulting in his termination by the Buccaneers and practically halting his professional career.

Brown, who had twelve years in the league, was an All-Pro player who spent the bulk of his tenure with his team. For his time, Brown had 928 catches for over 12,291 yards, the 28th highest of history. He was a seven-time prestigious choice.
